A debate regarding using DongZhi冬至 as a demarcation of new year, which is supposing to be LiChun立春 (Part 1)

To answer this question, we need to refer to the Calendar. In general speaking, there are 3 types of Calendars that are being popularly used right now:

i.) the solar calendar,
ii.) the lunar calendar; and
iii.) the lunisolar calendar.

If you study the history of Calendar, you will agree that Calendar is a complicate system as it involves a lot of calculations and theories. I recommend my readers to spend some time to check this topic out if you are interested; this will help you to clarify any misleading information or misconception you have and strengthen your foundation. The following website can provide you some basic ideas about Calendar:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar#Solar_calendars

In China, the calendar that we used since the Yellow Emperor is Lunisolar calendar. If you think we are only using either Lunar or Solar calendar in Chinese metaphysic, you must be unfamiliar with Chinese Metaphysic. The Lunisolar calendar that we used has already considered both Solar and Lunar calendar. If you know the lunar, you know the solar. There is no need to debate which calendar is more correct in Bazi or other metaphysic.

The following photo was taken on Purple mountain observatory academia sinica. If you want to know more about the Calendar, you should do a research there.
