My Feng Shui researches 6 - Master Tam Yeung Ng 談養吾Chinese has an old saying, “Good quality master will generate good student 名師出高徒”. We talked about Master Yau Sick Yum尤惜陰 in last article; we can not omit his master, Tam Yeung Ng談養吾.
In the Feng Shui history, if we say Master Yeung Wan Chung楊筠松 was the first one who changed Feng Shui knowledge from Royal family to the public, then Master Tam Yeung Ng談養吾was the first one who used distance learning method to teach the students.
After Master Tam graduate from his master Yeung Kow Yue 楊九如, he created this distance learning method for the public in 1922. He continued to teach by this method until he met another Master Lee Kin Hu李虔虛 in 1929 to learn “6 methods of Yuen Hoong玄空六法” – this name was coming from Master Tam’s conclusion. Master Lee was a Taoist. You can see Feng Shui knowledge inheritances haven’t disconnect inside the Taoism. Many great Feng Shui masters were either Buddhism or Taoism.
After the serious comparison of his previous master and the new master teaching plus on field practices, he realized that Master Lee’s teaching was the real Feng Shui.
Seven years of teaching let Master Tam became as a famous master before he got the real Feng Shui knowledge. It also made him to be seized with remorse – his fake Feng Shui already misleading so many students. If he kept it silence, his goodwill still will let him earn more money. But if he told the true to his students, then he would risk of loss his fame and future incomes.
As a responsibility Feng Shui master, he understood that his previous fake Feng Shui teaching was no end of trouble for the future. He disregarded his fame to advertise an announcement in the newspaper in 1930 for his faults. He also paid the correction fees for his client’s graves.
In the Feng Shui history, he was the only one apologized the public for his faults. From his painful story, we had learnt that before we got the real Feng Shui, don’t become as a teacher otherwise you will regret one day with your doing. Once this bad karma was built, it was not that easy to clean up.
Under the lineage of Master Tam, his disciples understand the important of real Feng Shui knowledge and they had made some changes in their lineage. Research and practice became as part of their learning path.
I met his lineage carrier Master Leyau in 1991 and I send him a collection of “Say Fu Chuen She 四庫全書– Feng Shui Category堪輿部” as a gift, and Master Leyau returned back his lineage Feng Shui books copy to me. As Chinese saying, “Self study without companies will become blind 獨學無友則孤漏寡聞.” If you want to enlarge your vision and open your mind in learning, you need to meet more people who are in this field.
