A contradiction in logic
When I was studying in elementary school, I have study an article called, “Impenetrable Shield and All-piercing Spear”, which is used in much the same way as it was then in today.
The story is happen in State of Chu 楚 (841-233 b.c.), Chou Dynasty.
An armourer of Chu楚 boldly claims to make the best spears and shields and sold them in the market.
He showed his shields and told his audiences, "My shields are so strong; there are no weapon can penetrate them.” After that, he was continuing to show his spears and told his audiences, "My spears are so sharp; they can pierce any shield."
One of his confused audience suddenly asked him, "If your spear is thrown at your shield, what then?"
By logic, both an impenetrable shield and an all-piercing spear can not exist at the same time.
The armourer had no reply and his turned bright red, and quickly packed up his bags and left.
Today 自相矛盾 is used in much the same way as it was then: when someone says, “No one has the right or authority to define what is the meaning of the Feng Shui!” – The person tries to give his definition in Feng Shui.
On the one side disagrees the Feng Shui item such as Three Legged Toad or Frog, but on the other sides tell you to use Calabash.
On the one side discourage you to trace the ancient lineage but on the other hand to promote his lineage.
Confucian said, “「聽其言、觀其行」Listen to what is said and observe the conduct.” When the person is “Artful speech and sanctimonious looks seldom go with humaneness. 『巧言令色，鮮矣仁。』”
Feng Shui needs a long time to proof its effects, it involve a lot of operating skills which same as a surgery doctor. If the surgery doctor learns his surgery from the book without lineage, do you think that you will let him to do your operation? In the same theory, if your master learnt his Feng Shui from the books with a limited experience plus some of the theory is created by his imagination, then would you think that you are in the right path?
If you cannot distinguish the real & the phoney Feng Shui ends up paying and learning garbage, you keeps continue to promote your master’s lineage to misleading the new comers. Then what is the difference with the bad guys to sell drugs?
If lineage is not important, why there are so many foolish students willing to pay the “Franchise Fee” to sell their master’s seminars and sharing their master’s articles?
